On this night, we started our meeting with introducing ourselves with our name, pronouns, and if we went to Edmonton and St. Albert Prides. Those who went to Pride events enjoyed their experiences and made great memories with family and friends. Then we moved on to some talking points, including an online interview by ISMSS.
If you are an LGBTQ+ youth between the age of 12-29 who wants to share their experience of resilience, check out https://facebook.com/GrowingIntoResilience for project details.
Our night then went on to include some games and activities. All night long we had an on-going clothing swap for youth to take whatever they wanted. Then we played a game called “2 truths, 1 lie.” The youth had to think of two truths about themselves and one lie and the rest of the group had to guess what was the lie. Our next activity was blackout poetry. We took old pages from books and took sharpies to the pages to make poetry. It was something unique and different for some of the youth and they all seemed to have a good time.
At the end of the night, we did a check-in where we talked to the youth about LGBTQ+ and mental health issues in school. We ended up having an enlightening discussion with them that will hopefully bring about change. Also, we had some youth share their coming out stories and updates from their life.
Hope to see you all at the next Outloud meeting after Canada Day!
