What we do at a PFLAG Coffee night.
Come join us tonight at the Collective, 43 St Thomas street from 7 to 9pm for PFLAG St Albert. We have a couple special guests coming and some excellent discussion around inclusion, diversity, and mental health. If you have wondered what PFLAG is about then join us for coffee and learn what our LGBTQ community is like. You don’t need to give any information except a name (can be an alias or preferred name) and just sit and listen. If you have questions about a friend, relative, or coworker then we would be happy to talk about it. If you do not know anyone who is queer or questioning but still have questions of your own, then come and discuss or just listen.
Here is what we don’t do at PFLAG.
- We never out anybody. I will ask your name because we can’t all be called “hey you” but use any name you choose.
- We will not ask for your story. If you want to tell it, we are happy to listen and offer support but that’s up to you.
- We won’t sit around and pretend that everything is ok. Some of us struggle with many things like mental health, suicidal thoughts, self acceptance, peer pressure, adult bullying, gender issues, or spousal problems. It’s not ok, we just understand.
- We don’t give you a solution. Even though many of us go thru the same situations at the same time, we can only offer what has worked for us and what resources are available. Sorry but everyone still has to work on themselves.
All about support.
Come join us and feel free to bring someone you trust to be on your side about any issues. If you don’t feel you have someone like that, you may just meet that person at PFLAG. Many people think and act the same way when going through similar situations and you only need to be open enough to let some new info in. Come make you own decision if this group has anything for you.
